Ingredients for Bacon and cheddar toasts
225 g extra-sharp white cheddar, coarsely grated
225 g cold sliced lean streaky bacon, finely chopped
80 g small onion, finely chopped
22 g drained bottled horseradish
2.5 g salt
1.25 g black pepper
14 very thin slices firm white sandwich bread
How to make Bacon and cheddar toasts
Position the oven rack in the middle and preheat the oven to 190°C (fan 180°C).
In a bowl, stir together the cheese, bacon, onion, horseradish, salt, and pepper using a rubber spatula until well combined.
Spread approximately 1 1/2 tablespoons of the mixture evenly to the edges of each slice of bread using a small offset spatula or butter knife.
Arrange the slices in a single layer on a large baking tray and cover with wax paper. Freeze until firm, about 15 minutes.
Trim the crusts off the bread and reserve for another use (see cook's note below). Cut each slice into 4 squares.
Bake the toasts on the baking tray until the edges begin to brown, about 20 minutes.
