Taking alcohol with pramipexole can make you feel extremely sleepy, dizzy, or lightheaded. It can also increase the risk of 'sleep attacks' (suddenly falling asleep without warning) and may worsen side effects like nausea or low blood pressure when standing up.

Why this happens
Both alcohol and pramipexole affect the central nervous system. Alcohol is a depressant, and pramipexole works on dopamine receptors in the brain. When used together, they 'double up' on their sedative effects, making you much more drowsy than usual.
What you should do
Back to contentsIt is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking pramipexole. Because this medication can cause sudden sleepiness, you must be very careful. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel sleepy. If you choose to drink, do so only in very small amounts at home to see how it affects you, but be aware that even small amounts of alcohol can significantly increase your risk of falling or fainting.
