Omeprazole can significantly reduce the amount of 1.25 (calcitriol) that your body absorbs. This may lead to lower levels of calcium in your blood, which can cause symptoms like muscle cramps, tingling in the hands or feet, or weakened bones over time.

Why this happens
Calcitriol (1.25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) requires a certain level of stomach acid to be absorbed effectively. Omeprazole works by reducing stomach acid, which makes it harder for your body to take in the calcitriol. Additionally, long-term use of omeprazole can interfere with how the body manages calcium levels.
What you should do
