Can I take 1 and Sertraline together?

Taking sertraline and cannabis together can significantly increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called serotonin syndrome. It can also make you feel much more drowsy, dizzy, or confused than usual. Additionally, cannabis can worsen the symptoms of anxiety or depression that sertraline is meant to treat.

Why this happens

Both substances affect the levels of serotonin in your brain. When taken together, serotonin can reach dangerously high levels. Furthermore, sertraline can slow down the rate at which your liver processes cannabis, leading to higher levels of cannabis in your bloodstream and more intense side effects.

It is best to avoid using cannabis while taking sertraline. If you experience symptoms like shivering, sweating, a very fast heartbeat, muscle stiffness, or confusion, seek medical help immediately. In the UK, it is illegal to drive with any cannabis in your system, regardless of whether you feel impaired.
