Why this happens

Both zopiclone and the codeine in co-codamol are 'central nervous system depressants'. This means they both slow down brain activity and the signals that control breathing. When taken together, these effects add up and become much stronger.

You should only take these two medicines together if your doctor has specifically told you to do so and is aware you are taking both. If you do take them together, avoid alcohol, do not drive or operate machinery, and ensure someone is with you to monitor your breathing. Seek medical help immediately if you feel unusually drowsy or have difficulty breathing.
