Taking zopiclone and verapamil together can make you feel much more sleepy, dizzy, or confused than usual. It can also make you more likely to experience 'hangover' effects the next morning, such as extreme drowsiness or difficulty concentrating.

Why this happens
Verapamil slows down the liver's ability to break down zopiclone. This causes the zopiclone to stay in your body for longer and reach higher levels in your bloodstream than intended.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou should speak to your doctor before taking these together. If they are prescribed together, your doctor may need to lower your dose of zopiclone (for example, starting with 3.75mg instead of 7.5mg). Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this combination, as your coordination and reaction times will be significantly impaired. Avoid all alcohol, as this will make the sedative effects even more dangerous.
