Taking Abilify (aripiprazole) and Zoloft (sertraline) together can increase the levels of Abilify in your bloodstream. This may make you more likely to experience side effects such as restlessness, drowsiness, dizziness, or unusual body movements. There is also a small but serious risk of a condition called 'serotonin syndrome' or an irregular heart rhythm.

Why this happens
Zoloft can slow down the way your liver processes Abilify (by blocking an enzyme called CYP2D6). This causes Abilify to build up in your system. Additionally, both drugs affect a brain chemical called serotonin, which can lead to an over-accumulation.
