Why this happens

Allopurinol works by lowering uric acid levels to prevent gout, while Jardiance (empagliflozin) helps the kidneys remove sugar from the blood through urine. Jardiance has a mild diuretic effect (it makes you pass more urine), which can occasionally lead to dehydration. Since dehydration can sometimes trigger a gout flare or affect how the kidneys process allopurinol, maintaining a steady fluid intake is key.

You can take these two medicines together. Ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. If you notice a sudden change in how much urine you pass, or if you experience a gout flare-up, mention this to your doctor. Your doctor may monitor your kidney function periodically, which is standard practice for patients taking these medications.
