Why this happens

Apixaban is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) that prevents clots. Azathioprine is an immunosuppressant that can sometimes lower your blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia). Platelets are necessary for blood clotting. If your platelets become too low while taking a blood thinner, you may bleed more easily.

You can usually take these together, but you should have regular blood tests as requested by your doctor to monitor your blood cell counts. Seek medical advice if you notice unusual bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or blood in your urine or stools.
