Why this happens

Enalapril works by relaxing blood vessels, partly through substances called prostaglandins. Aspirin (especially at higher doses) blocks the production of these prostaglandins, which can stop enalapril from working as well. Both drugs also affect how the kidneys filter blood; when used together, they can reduce blood flow to the kidneys.

If you are taking low-dose aspirin (75mg to 150mg) for heart protection, the interaction is usually small, but you should still have your blood pressure and kidney function monitored by your doctor. Avoid taking high-dose aspirin (for pain or fever) regularly while on enalapril. If you notice you are passing less urine than usual or have swelling in your ankles, contact your doctor.
