Why this happens
Atorvastatin and metformin are processed by different pathways in the body. Atorvastatin is primarily broken down by the liver (CYP3A4 enzyme), while metformin is cleared by the kidneys. They do not interfere with each other's absorption or metabolism.
What you should do
You can safely take these medications together as prescribed by your doctor. It is important to continue taking both to manage your heart health and blood sugar levels. If you experience unusual muscle pain or weakness (a rare side effect of statins), you should still report this to your doctor.
