Can I take Levothyroxine and Tramadol together?

Why this happens

Levothyroxine is a synthetic version of the thyroid hormone T4, while tramadol is an opioid painkiller. They do not interfere with each other's absorption, metabolism, or excretion. The only concern is a 'pharmacodynamic' one: if a patient is currently in a hypothyroid state (low thyroid levels), their metabolism is slower, which can make the body process painkillers like tramadol more slowly, increasing the risk of side effects.

It is generally safe to take these two medicines together. Ensure you take your levothyroxine on an empty stomach, usually 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast, to ensure it is absorbed properly. If you feel unusually sleepy, dizzy, or have difficulty breathing while taking tramadol, contact your doctor. Ensure your thyroid levels are monitored regularly as part of your routine care.
