This aromatic basmati rice with sweet onions and summer herbs is a versatile vegetarian side dish that elevates any meal. By gently sautéing the onions in butter before simmering the grains, you create a subtle sweetness that perfectly complements the fragrant basmati. The addition of fresh parsley, dill and tarragon provides a burst of seasonal flavour, making this dish feel light and sophisticated while remaining incredibly simple to prepare.
Ideal for serving alongside roasted vegetables, grilled halloumi or as part of a larger Mediterranean spread, this recipe is a reliable staple for your weekly rotation. The steaming process ensures perfectly fluffy grains every time, while the fresh herbs add a vibrant colour and garden-fresh aroma. It is a healthy, homemade alternative to shop-bought seasoned rice that the whole family will enjoy.
