Crème Fraîche and Chive Mashed Potatoes

This recipe for crème fraîche and chive mashed potatoes offers a sophisticated twist on the classic British side dish. By swapping traditional cream for tangy crème fraîche, the potatoes achieve a velvety texture with a light, refreshing acidity that cuts through richer main courses. Using yellow-fleshed potatoes like Yukon Gold ensures a naturally buttery flavour and a superior fluffy finish when passed through a ricer.

As a versatile vegetarian accompaniment, these potatoes are ideal for everything from Sunday roasts to a mid-week bangers and mash. The addition of fresh chives provides a delicate onion note and a vibrant pop of colour. This dish can be prepared up to an hour in advance, making it a stress-free option for hosting dinner parties or busy family meals.
