RSV vaccination programme expansion

The Government has accepted the JCVI’s recommendation to expand the eligibility criteria for the RSV vaccination programme starting 1 September 2026. This now includes adults aged 65 to 74 years who are in at-risk groups, specifically those with chronic respiratory diseases or immunosuppression. NHS England and UKHSA have published a letter outlining these changes. Additionally, The Green Book chapter has been updated accordingly.

2026/27 children’s seasonal influenza vaccination service specifications published

The service specifications for the 2026/27 children’s seasonal influenza vaccination are now available. For general practices, the GP Enhanced Service (ES) specification details that children aged 2 to 3 years and those aged 6 months to 17 years in clinical risk groups are eligible for vaccinations starting 1 September 2026. More information can be found ici.

For community pharmacies, the childhood flu advanced service (AS) specification has been expanded to include children aged 2 to 3 years from 1 October, as well as school-aged children from 1 December. The Item of Service fee for this service is set at £10.06. Pharmacies wishing to provide this service must register on MYS by 31 August, further details can be found ici.

2026 GP Patient Survey publication and webinar

The results of the 2026 GP Patient Survey, which encompasses community pharmacy and dentistry, will be published at 9.30am on Thursday 9 July. The survey, commissioned by NHS England, offers insights into patient experiences of primary care. Results will be available at www.gp-patient.co.uk. Ipsos will host a webinar on 15 July, detailing key findings and comparisons with previous years. Registration for the webinar can be completed at GP Patient Survey Publication Webinar.

Government apology for historical forced adoption

The Government has issued a formal apology for historical forced adoption practices, which may lead to more individuals affected by such practices seeking support from GP teams. NHS England is collaborating with the affected community to develop practical tools and guidance for clinicians to aid in these sensitive interactions. Recognition of the implications of unknown family medical histories will also be included in the guidance. Further information can be found ici.

Reminder: resources available to support dental check-up recall intervals

Resources have been made available to assist dental teams and ICB commissioning teams in communicating check-up recall intervals to patients and the public. A communications toolkit, which includes translated materials and easy-read options, can be downloaded from the Campaigns Resource Centre. This toolkit aims to raise awareness that not all patients require check-ups every six months. For guidance on intervals between oral health reviews, see the NICE dental checks: intervals between oral health reviews guidance.

Maintaining the oral health of our ageing population

A framework has been developed focusing on the oral health needs of older adults. This framework emphasizes the importance of prevention service planning, workforce training, and shared care models to ensure high-quality outcomes. Further details can be reviewed in the framework ici.
