Taking amlodipine and sertraline together may cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended. This can lead to symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint, especially when you stand up quickly. In rare cases, this combination might also affect your heart rhythm.

Why this happens
Both medications can have an effect on the cardiovascular system. Amlodipine works by relaxing blood vessels to lower blood pressure. Sertraline, while primarily an antidepressant, can occasionally influence heart rhythm or slightly enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of other drugs. Additionally, both drugs are processed by the liver, which can sometimes lead to slightly higher levels of the medication in your bloodstream.
What you should do
It is generally safe to take these together, but you should monitor your blood pressure regularly. To avoid dizziness, try to get up slowly from a sitting or lying position. If you feel very dizzy, experience a racing heartbeat, or faint, contact your GP. Do not stop taking either medication without consulting your doctor first.
