These prawn and spring onion dumplings are a delicate and flavourful addition to any high-protein menu. Succulent chopped prawns are seasoned with aromatic ginger, garlic, and salty soy sauce to create a filling that is both light and satisfying. Making your own dumplings at home is a rewarding process, resulting in a fresh, vibrant taste that surpasses shop-bought alternatives while allowing you to control the quality of the seafood used.
Perfect as a sophisticated starter or a nutritious light lunch, these homemade parcels benefit from a gentle simmer that keeps the prawn meat tender. Serve them warm with a side of sharp Asian-style hot mustard and reduced-sodium soy sauce for a balanced, savoury finish. This simple preparation is an excellent way to enjoy a protein-rich meal without sacrificing traditional flavour or texture.

Ingredients for Prawns Spring onion Dumplings
350g peeled and deveined prawns, finely chopped
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
3/4 tablespoons minced peeled ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons soy sauce
3 spring onions, finely chopped
About 36 dumpling or wonton wrappers
Accompaniments: Asian-style hot mustard and reduced-sodium soy sauce for dipping
How to make Prawns Spring onion Dumplings
Stir together all ingredients, except wrappers, and 1/4 teaspoons salt.
Put a rounded teaspoon filling in centre of a wrapper. Lightly brush edge of wrapper with water, then fold in half (diagonally if square) and press to seal. Form a tortellini shape by moistening 1 corner and bringing 2 corners together, pressing them. Form remaining dumplings.
Cook dumplings in 2 batches in a medium pot of gently simmering water until filling is just cooked, about 3 minutes per batch. Transfer with a slotted spoon to a platter. Keep warm, covered.
