Mashed Potatoes and Turnips with Roasted Pear Purée

This elegant vegetarian side dish offers a sophisticated twist on classic mash. By combining earthy white turnips with buttery Yukon Gold potatoes, you create a base that is both lighter and more complex than traditional mashed potatoes. The addition of a roasted pear purée, caramelised with honey and lemon, provides a delicate sweetness that cuts through the richness of the butter, elevating this dish into something truly special for a festive dinner or a refined Sunday roast.

Ideal for those who enjoy a balance of savoury and sweet flavours, this recipe is remarkably easy to prepare ahead of time. You can make the fruit purée up to two days in advance, leaving you more time to focus on your main course. Serve this vibrant, velvety mash alongside roasted root vegetables or a nut roast for a comforting, seasonal meal that the whole family will enjoy.
