There is no evidence of a direct harmful interaction between atorvastatin and turkey tail mushroom (Trametes versicolor). However, turkey tail may have a mild effect on how the liver processes certain medications, and it may also have its own subtle cholesterol-lowering properties.

Why this happens
Turkey tail contains compounds called polysaccharopeptides (PSP and PSK) which primarily affect the immune system. While atorvastatin is broken down by a specific liver enzyme (CYP3A4), turkey tail does not significantly block or speed up this enzyme. There is a theoretical possibility of an 'additive effect,' meaning both substances are working to lower cholesterol at the same time.
What you should do
It is generally considered safe to take these together. However, because herbal supplements are not regulated as strictly as medicines, you should inform your GP or pharmacist that you are taking turkey tail. If you experience any unusual muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (rare side effects of statins), contact your doctor immediately.
