Why this happens
Fibre supplements (like psyllium husk or methylcellulose) can trap medicines in the digestive tract or slow down how quickly they are absorbed into the bloodstream.
What you should do
Back to contentsTo ensure your medicine works correctly, try to take alogliptin at least 1 hour before or 2 to 4 hours after taking a fibre supplement. You should also monitor your blood sugar levels regularly and speak to your doctor if you notice they are consistently higher than usual.

Important precautions
Back to contentsPancreatitis
Stop taking alogliptin and see a doctor immediately if you experience severe and persistent stomach pain, which may reach through to your back, as this can be a sign of an inflamed pancreas.
Medication timing
Take fibre supplements at least 2 hours before or after taking any other medicines, as they can trap other drugs and prevent your body from absorbing them properly.
Fluid intake
You must drink plenty of water (at least 200ml per dose) when taking fibre supplements; without enough fluid, the supplement can swell and cause a blockage in your throat or bowel.
