Gonorrhée is a STI caused by the bacteria, Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Symptoms can include pain or burning when you pee, unusual discharge from the genitals, and sometimes soreness or swelling.

Transmission

You can get gonorrhoea by having unprotected sex (vaginal, anal, or oral) with someone who has the infection.

Tests

Gonorrhoea is usually tested by providing a urine sample or a swab from the affected area, like the cervix, throat, or rectum, which is then checked for the infection in a lab.

Traitement

Gonorrhoea is treated with antibiotics, usually given as an injection and sometimes combined with oral tablets.

Complications

If left untreated, gonorrhoea can lead to serious complications such as maladie inflammatoire pelvienne (MIP), grossesse extra-utérine, l'infertilité, and increased risk of VIH.
