EWS RNA binding protein 1

La EWSR1 gene provides instructions for making the EWS protein, whose function is not completely understood. The EWS protein has two regions that contribute to its function. One region, the transcriptional activation domain, allows the EWS protein to turn on (activate) the first step in the production of proteins from genes (transcription). The other region, the RNA-binding domain, allows the EWS protein to attach (bind) to the genetic blueprint for proteins called RNA. The EWS protein may be involved in piecing together this blueprint. Some studies suggest that the RNA-binding domain is able to block (inhibit) the activity of the transcriptional activation domain, and thus regulate the function of the EWS protein.

Patient information leaflet

Maladie de Wilson

Maladie de Wilson is a genetic disorder in which copper builds up in the body, mainly in the liver and brain. Without any treatment, the build-up of copper can cause serious symptoms. Treatment is with medication to remove the excess copper and/or to prevent a further build-up of copper. What is Wilson's disease. Wilson's disease is a condition.

Syndrome néphrotique

Patient information leaflet

Syndrome néphrotique

Syndrome néphrotique is a condition where the 'filters' in the kidney become 'leaky' and large amounts of protéines leak from the blood into the urine. The main symptom is fluid retention (oedema) which is mainly due to the low protein level in the blood. Various diseases can cause nephrotic syndrome, some more serious than others. Treatment and.

Le système immunitaire

This leaflet gives a brief overview of système immunitaire and how it works. A person with a weak immune system might have difficulty fighting off infections. In autoimmune diseases the body is unable to tell what is its own and what is foreign, so it attacks itself. Autoimmune diseases can attack any part of the body - eg, type 1 diabetes.

Cholangite biliaire primitive

Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a condition that slowly damages the bile ducts in your liver, leading to liver damage and, sometimes, liver scarring (cirrhosis). Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is an auto-immune condition in which your immune system gradually destroys the tiny tubes (bile ducts) which take bile from the liver to the gut.

Tests de fonction hépatique

Tests de fonction hépatique measure a series of chemicals which relate to the way the liver works. They include substances that are made in the liver or affected by the health of the liver cells, chemicals which are processed or excreted by the liver, and hormones that the liver makes in order to do its work.
