La PML gene provides instructions for a protein that acts as a tumour suppressor, which means it prevents cells from growing and dividing too rapidly or in an uncontrolled way. The PML protein is found in distinct structures in the nucleus of a cell called PML nuclear bodies (PML-NBs). In the PML-NBs, the PML protein interacts with other proteins that are involved in cell growth and division (proliferation) and self-destruction (apoptosis). The PML protein is able to block cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in combination with other proteins. Researchers believe that the structure of the PML-NBs is required for blocking proliferation and inducing apoptosis.

Scintigraphie osseuse
A bone scan is a special type of nuclear medicine procedure that uses radionuclides to create a picture of the bones. Radionuclides are chemicals which emit radioactivity that can be detected by special scanners. A bone scan is different to a bone density scan (DEXA). See the DEXA Scan leaflet for more information on this bone density test. A DEXA.

Scintigraphie TEP
A PET scan create images which show where cells are particularly active in the body. It is most commonly used to diagnose and assess cancer. Note : the information below is a general guide only. The arrangements, and the way tests are performed, may vary between different hospitals. Always follow the instructions given by your doctor or local.

Maladie de Wilson
Wilson's maladie is a genetic disorder in which copper builds up in the body, mainly in the liver and brain. Without any treatment, the build-up of copper can cause serious symptoms. Treatment is with medication to remove the excess copper and/or to prevent a further build-up of copper. What is Wilson's disease. Wilson's disease is a condition.

Le système immunitaire
This leaflet gives a brief overview of the système immunitaire and how it works. A person with a weak immune system might have difficulty fighting off infections. In autoimmune diseases the body is unable to tell what is its own and what is foreign, so it attacks itself. Autoimmune diseases can attack any part of the body - eg, type 1 diabetes.

Scan DMSA
A DMSA scan uses a radioactive chemical to create specialised pictures of the kidneys. It can help to show whether the kidneys are damaged or scarred. T... How does a DMSA scan work. A DMSA scan est a type of radionuclide scan. A radionuclide (sometimes called a radioisotope or isotope) is a chemical which emits a type of radioactivity called gamma.

Scintigraphie au gallium
A gallium scan uses a radioactive chemical to help create pictures which can show areas of possible infection, injury, inflammation or cancer. It does this by looking for areas where there is rapid cell division within the body. Always follow the instructions given by your doctor or local h... What is a gallium scan.
